R&B singer Jill Scott will be starring in the upcoming HBO movie No.1 Ladies Detective Agency as well as the new Tyler Perry project Why Did I Get Married?.
In No.1 Ladies Detective Agency, Scott will play a private investigator named Precious Ramotswe, who opens up her own agency after the death of her father. With the help of her assistant, played by Anika Noni Rose (Dreamgirls), Scott will take on a cheating husband, insurance fraud, witchcraft and a kidnapper.
The flick, which is based on a bestselling book of the same name, will also star Idris Elba ("The Wire," 28 Weeks Later) and will begin production this month in Botswana and South Africa.
The movie's release date has yet to be announced.
Scott will also be making her big screen debut on October 12 in Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married? The movie centers around a group of happily vacationing couples confronted with the ensuing chaos created by a flirtatious single woman who is thrown in their midst.
Scott, who wears a prosthetic "fat" suit in the flick, plays an extremely obese woman in an unhappy marriage.
"It's like she's born to do this," Perry said via a statement. "Her acting is so natural, I was shocked. When this woman smiles, she lights up a room."
In related news, Scott is currently putting the finishing touches on her third studio album The Real Thing, which hits shelves on September 18. She recently dropped Collaborations in January, showcasing her work with other artists like Mos Def, Common, Will Smith and Lupe Fiasco.
