RUMOR ALERT: DEF JAM DROPS JAY-Z?

jayz_hoh.jpg

I’m classifying this as a rumor because the report comes from gossip site Mediatakeout.com, which while entertaining, is hardly what I’d consider a reliable source. The article says,

“MediaTakeOut.com has just learned that execs over at Def Jam have decided not to extend an offer to Jay Z to continue on as head of the label. Details are still sketchy, but word is that they’ve already beginning to look for a successor - and so far Jermaine Dupri is the leading candidate. We’re told to expect an announcement in the next day or so.”

That story seems to coincide with the one published yesterday in the “Rush and Molloy” section of the New York Daily News, which said Universal Music Group’s head honchos felt The God Exec was demanding too much money to stay. Lo and behold, he could already be out the door.

Adios Hovito!
