MUSIC NEW: JOSS STONE TO RECORD W/ THE CLISPE

Joss Stone and critically acclaimed rap duo Clipse are currently “trading tracks,” say reps for the artists. The Virginia-based rappers will make an appearance on Stone’s next studio effort, while the British soul singer has already recorded a song for the duo's forthcoming album with their group the Re-Up Gang (out this June). The mutual love-fest began when Stone and Clipse collaborated on a track for Randy Jackson's soon-to-be-released compilation album, Randy Jackson's Music Club, Volume 1. What's strange is on both the press release for the record and amazon.com, the song, titled "Just Walk On By," credits Joss Stone and Memphis hip-hop outfit Three 6 Mafia. Though reps for Three 6 Mafia have yet to get back to us, Jackson assures EW.com that it was, in fact, Clipse who worked with Stone on the track, not Three Six, but that the collab version will only be released as a single. For the version featured on the album, Stone goes at it solo. Props to EW

Music News: Clipse signed to Columbia

ClipseAfter years of label setbacks, the Clipse have officially ended their deal with Jive Records to negotiate a new contract with Columbia – and the Virginia duo will no longer be working with the Neptunes’ imprint, Star Trak Entertainment. “I can honestly say that we were all friends before the music and will be friends to the end,” said Malice, in regards to hit producers Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo. “Everything is business. If we had our way, we would always be on Star Trak. But it’s what’s working for you and what’s not. We just want good energy, and Columbia has both the urgency and the muscle.” Rappers Malice and Pusha T first signed to Arista Records under the Neptunes’ imprint, and released their 2002 debut, “Lord Willin’,” which included radio hits “Grindin” and “When The Last Time.” Due to label politics, Star Trak eventually moved to Jive and then Interscope, and in the midst of shuffling the Clipse were left on Jive to complete a four-album contract. Despite starting their own imprint, Re-Up Gang Records, the Clipse met with numerous album push-backs and minimal promotion – prompting their 2006 LP, “Hell Hath No Fury,” to sell only 194,000 copies. With their move to Columbia, the Clipse are planning a third studio LP and a subsequent Re-Up Gang album, and they are already reaching out to notable producers Timbaland, Danjahandz, and Dame Grease.
