The next move for the estate of the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard, who died in a Manhattan recording studio on November 13th, 2004, is to brand his name and face on some T-shirts. So, I guess the T-shirts the flea markets were selling when he first died must have been done on some illegal type sh*t. The rapper’s widow, Icelene Jones, has inked a deal with Merchdirect, a Long Island-based merchandising company that specializes in working with notable figures in the music industry. Other acts that they do merchandising for include rapper/singer Sean Kingston and rock band Simple Plan, among others. The ODB deal will allow Merchdirect to produce T-shirts, posters, and other accessories with the rapper’s physical likeness on them.
Lee Tepper, one of Merchdirect’s co-founders says,
“We feel that ODB appeals to Taking Back Sunday’s fans but also appeals to a Joss Stone fan or the white suburban kids who totally love it and get it, and it’s authentic Hip-Hop that real Hip-Hop guys are going to go for. He is definitely an artist that crosses boundaries of genres, and he not only appeals to all genres, but he’s respected, and everyone can relate to his wackiness in a way.”
Props to Suckerfree for the info.
