The developers of TAG men’s body spray, Proctor and Gamble, have joined forces with Def Jam to form TAG Records and named Jermaine Dupri as president. TAG hopes to reach the urban market and give a chance to aspiring hip-hop artist while having those artists promote TAG through a “multimillion-dollar campaign, including television, print, radio, computer and event marketing.”
“This label is going to provide new artists with a chance of a lifetime. New artists will receive 10 times the typical marketing support - a first in the industry,” Dupri said in a press release. “I’m hand-selecting and molding these artists to make history in hip hop.”
They will announce the first artists to be signed to TAG records in May.
Though, TAG has partnered with reality shows such as “America’s Next Top Model” and “Survivor,” this is Proctor and Gamble’s first dip into the music industry. Alternative marketing may become more common these days in the music industry with TAG Records and Jay-Z’s deal with Live Nation.
