NOW WILLIE HUTCH HAS BEEN MAKING MUSIC FOR YEARS AND YEARS...I STILL REMEMBER MY MOM AND DAD'S OLD DUSTY ALBUM COVERS.!! THEY WAIT FOR A BROTHER TO DIE TO START PAYING ATTENTION TO HIS MUSIC. FYI: WILLIE HUTCH WROTE AND PRODUCED MUSIC FOR MOST OF OUR BLACK PIONEERS...DO YOUR RESEARCH! THE BOY WAS COLD.
Willie Hutch, the award-winning Motown and rhythm & blues musician, songwriter and producer who co-wrote the Jackson 5 hit I’ll Be There. He was ONLY 60 years old when he passed in Sept. 2005. Born Willie McKinley Hutchison in Los Angeles, Hutch died passed in Duncanville, Texas, where he lived.

Willie Hutch, songwriter, musician, and producer was a true icon whose life’s work was dedicated to the influential success of music and film industry in immeasurable ways. He was responsible for contributing, creating, and developing many notable artists’ careers through his musical direction and production sculpting “The Standard” for what performers today strive to become. Willie touched many artists of whom we know as today’s most soulful legends, The Jackson 5, Michael Jackson, The Fifth Dimension, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie, The Commodores, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson, The Four Tops, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, and the list goes on! He was a versatile and key figure to music greats, Hal Davis and Berry Gordy and has collaborated with Clive Davis, Mo Austin, and Quincy Jones.

In the motion picture industry his music lives on and his tracks make an appearance on two Paramount Pictures soundtracks, “Four Brothers” (2005) and the Oscar winning film, “Hustle and Flow” (2005). Perhaps Willie’s most enduring work was during the height of his career when he placed his mark in the film and motion picture industry with the production of two soundtracks he created during the “blaxploitation” era for the films, “Foxy Brown” (1973) and “The Mack” (1974). Today, “The Mack” has secured its status as one of the Hip-Hop generation’s favorite film. His funk soul single, “Brothers Gonna Work It Out” has been sampled by Rap, Hip-Hop, and Electronica artists including; The Notorious B.I.G., Chemical Brothers, Public Enemy, Ghostface Killah featuring Kanye West, and Moby.

Born December 6, 1944 in Los Angeles, Willie McKinley Hutchinson moved with his mother and siblings as a child to Dallas, Texas where as a teenager he led and wrote music for a “doo-wop” band called The Ambassadors. He loved gospel, jazz, and rhythm and blues and showed a gift for playing instruments and arranging music while he was a student for Booker T. Washington High School. After serving a two-year tour of duty with the U.S. Marines he settled in Los Angeles where he began his venture into the music industry. Following the calling, he went on to release his first debut single in 1964, “Love Has Put Me Down.” One year later he met photographer, Lemonte McLemore, who formed one of America’s most popular groups, The Fifth Dimension. Soon after, The Fifth Dimension released Hutch’s, “I’ll Be Loving You Forever.Hutch penned several more tracks for the band and in 1967 he co-produced their album, “Up, Up and Away.” Two years later he signed on to the RCA label where he released his first solo album, “Soul Portrait.” Another 16 albums followed.

In the 70’s Motown producer Hal Davis contacted Hutch in the middle of night and asked him to complete a song for which he liked the title but not the song. It needed to be finished for a recording session that same morning! By 8:00 AM the song was delivered to Berry Gordy and Willie was immediately ordered into the studio to arrange the vocals. The song topped the US pop and R&B charts and became at the time, Motown’s biggest selling hit. The song was titled, “I’ll Be There” for The Jackson 5. Later he co-arranged vocals for the Jackson’s “Got To Be There” and “Never Can Say Good-Bye” landing him a noteworthy career with the Motown label during its “golden years”.

In the twilight of his career he continued to work as a Motown producer and returned to Dallas in 1994. There he continued to record, perform and live comfortably with his family. In 1998, “The Best of Willie Hutch” was released. This is an amazing soul funk collection offering proof that Willie was the last great of his era. Sadly, he passed away at the age of 60 on September 19, 2005.

Recently, UGK sampled "I Choose You" for their HIT collaboration w/ Outkast, which won them a BET HIP HOP Award.
