MUSIC NEWS: JAY Z ON TARGET FOR 10TH BILLBOARD NO. 1 ALBUM...

Jay-Z is on target for his 10th Billboard 200 No. 1 album next week judging by the latest Nielsen SoundScan figures for his new album "American Gangster," which was released on November 7 in the United States. If the album tops the charts Jay-Z will tie with Elvis as the artist with the second most chart-topping albums, behind The Beatles who have 19. According to Nielsen's Building Chart, despite his decision to pull the album from iTunes, Jay-Z's "American Gangster" has unweighted sales of 179,000 copies so far in the United States, the third highest figure for the year behind Kanye West's "Graduation" (437,000) and 50 Cent's "Curtis" (310,000). "Kingdom Come," Jay's last album, topped The Billboard 200 when it was released in 2006 with sales of around 680,000 units. The Building Chart considers sales data from Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, CircuitCity, iTunes, Border's, Target, Anderson Merchandisers, and Handleman Co who represent around 79% of the U.S. retail market.
