Terius “The-Dream” Nash dropped his debut album, Love Hate, this past Tuesday. He came, he saw, he conquered. Apparently now it’s time for him to move on… sort of.
In what I predict will become a highly controversial interview with Rhapsody.com (check out his thoughts on hanging around different races), The Dream said,
“I’ve been thinking about retiring, actually. It’s like a 35% chance. Certain things require my attention, so I have to look at it and make sure it’s worth being out on the road instead of writing songs for all of these artists. Me, L.A. [Reid], and [Jay-Z] will make the right decision when it gets to that point. I’m eight records into the next album anyway, and I already have the first three singles.”
So I guess he’ll be sticking around for at least one more album, then sailing off into the sunset, at least as an artist that is. I can understand where he’s coming from. The guy is a heck of a songwriter, having penned “Umbrella” for Rihanna, “Bed” for J. Holiday, and new tracks for more adult contemporary artists like Celine Dion and Sting. The demand for him as a songwriter, as well as for his main production collaborator, Tricky Stewart, may be just too great right now, and he’s gotta cash in while he can. Ah well, another bites the dust…. retiring is the new blogging.
